Below are some resources for learning more about/obtaining certifications and licences that may be relevant to some field work jobs depending on the field. This list is just a place to begin, whereas job postings and other more specific resources may give you a better idea of which certifications may be helpful for your individual goals.

SAFETY-RELATED

First Aid & CPR/AED

Certification at Queen’s

  • Available to faculty, staff and graduate students for free. Reach out to your department's graduate coordinator for more information.

Certification in Kingston

  • Ensure that your course is approved by WSIB (Workplace Safety and Insurance Board)

  • Search for available programs here (Program = First Aid & CPR; Category = First Aid for Home and Work)

  • More programs available through WSIB here​

Wilderness and Remote First Aid

  • The Red Cross offers a 2-day program. More information here.

  • Check for available programs here (Program = First Aid & CPR; Category = Wilderness and Remote First Aid)

  • Between $250-$300 for full program and $130 for recertification

Boating licence

Pleasure Craft Operators Card (PCOC)

  • Needed to operate a power-driven vessel of any size in Canada
